biography

André Cimiotti

(born 1975 in Marburg, Germany) studied saxophone, clarinet and flute at the Cologne University of Music (Hochschule für Musik Köln) with Heiner Wiberny, where he also took composition and arranging courses with Bill Dobbins. Furthermore, he took saxophone and improvisation lessons from Harry Petersen, Peter Weniger, Jeff Clayton, Herb Geller, John Ruocco and Dick Oatts.
Since then, André has been working with renowned ensembles, such as the WDR (Cologne) and HR (Frankfurt) radio big bands and the Peter Herbolzheimer Rhythm Combination & Brass. From 2001 to 2007, he made recordings and toured throughout Europe with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, directed by Wil Salden. In 2007, he had an engagement at the Operettenhaus Hamburg for the world premiere of the musical "Ich war noch niemals in New York", with the songs of Udo Jürgens. Since 2008, he plays lead alto saxophone in the Big Band of the German Armed Forces (Die Big Band der Bundeswehr).
Next to his work in large ensembles, André Cimiotti focused on playing with and writing music for the Cologne Saxophone Quintet and saxophone quartet Forkolor. With the Cologne Saxophone Quintet, he performed at the presentation of the German Media Prize to Bill Clinton, who spontaneously joined in to play with the ensemble. During a tour through the USA, the Cologne Saxophone Quintet worked with Bob Mintzer for the first time: they recorded the album "YO!" in New York and Germany and they also played several concerts together. André Cimiottis compositions "YO!" and "November Spring" are available at Advance Music.
